2D Hack & Slash

Hired Defenders is a co-op, 2D hack and slash game set in a fantasy world where the player controls hired mercenaries tasked with defending castles and towns from invasions of evil creatures for as long as possible. Mercenaries are perma-death characters that get more powerful the longer they fight, giving the player a risk vs. reward feeling as they decide whether to keep fighting or leave with  their reward.
